Get your Kubb on! The third annual Great Lakes Kubb Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Alanson, MI!

Also, the second annual Kid Kubb tournament will be held the same day. There will be three age brackets: 6 and 7, 8 and 9, 10 and 11. The Kid Kubb pitches are 4 meters by 6 meters.  We are using the “two down and out” rule for kubbs (knocked down twice and they are removed from play). No need for a partner because it is one vs. one. All participants will get a participation medal. Never played? Don’t worry. Learn how to play at the tournament. Kid Kubb is from 8:30 – 10 a.m. Cost is $10 each.

WHEN: Saturday, September 9, 2017, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  until the last match is played. RAIN or SHINE!

WHAT IS KUBB? Kubb is an old Nordic game played with wooden game pieces. Some say the Vikings played kubb. The game is played with six batons, 10 kubbs, one king, and six marking stakes. Due to the strategy involved, the game’s nickname is “Viking Chess”. If the Vikings played the game or not, the birth of kubb seems to be on the island of Gotland, Sweden, which now holds the World Championship in August each year. Kubb can be described as a combination of Bowling, Horseshoes, and a smidgen of Chess.
